A Message for the Karns City Community -- November 4, 2022

Dear Karns City Families,

On Friday, November 4, 2022, an elementary teacher at Chicora Elementary found a hunting knife within the classroom. The teacher notified the principal of the situation, who then coordinated an investigation with the school police. The state police were notified and the principal, school police, and state police determined that there did not appear to be a threat to the students or staff.

The school district considers school security to be of the utmost importance and will pursue disciplinary action consistent with our Student Code of Conduct. The district is also taking this opportunity to review our procedures to ensure the safety of the students and staff.

It is understood that we live in a rural area where these items may be common in the household. However, the district has a strict no weapon policy on school grounds. Please remind your children that these types of items are not permitted on school grounds.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe.

Sincerely,

Eric D. Ritzert, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
