National School Lunch Program
The school breakfast program and the national school lunch program receive money from the federal government to provide breakfast and lunch in participating schools.
Schools that participate in these programs must serve meals that meet federal guidelines.
Schools must also offer free or reduced meals to eligible children.
Reimbursable meal required components:
Breakfast:
(3) THREE OF THE FOUR MUST BE TAKEN (ONE MUST BE FRUIT, JUICE OR VEGETABLE)
1. Milk
2. Fruit, juice and/or vegetable
3. Breads or Protein
4. Two Breads
Lunch:
THREE (3) OF THE FIVE (5) MUST BE SELECTED. A FRUIT AND / OR VEGETABLE MUST BE ONE OF THE SELECTIONS.
1. Milk
2. Protein (Meat and/or Meat alternate)
3.Fruit*
4. Vegetable*
5. Breads or grains
If meals do not meets the required components to be claimed as a reimbursable meal, then the individual selections would be charged a separate price. These charges are not part of the free or reduced meal program.
